Introduction

On July 7, 2026, the first batch of production line equipment was moved into the workshop of Glory Sunergy Global (Tieling)'s 10GWh solid-state battery AI intelligent manufacturing project, marking a decisive shift from infrastructure construction to equipment installation and commissioning. The project covers three business segments: system integration, material recycling, and semi-solid (solid-liquid hybrid) battery manufacturing.

Glory Sunergy Co., Ltd. (GS Group), founded in January 2022, is a diversified conglomerate spanning investment and energy sectors — including photovoltaics, micro-wind power systems, new energy station development, and agrivoltaic/aquavoltaic projects. Its listed arm, Glory Sunergy Technology (603778.SH), is among the world's top HJT solar cell manufacturers. This foray into solid-state battery cell manufacturing represents the first deep vertical integration into the solid-state battery value chain by a PV company.

This article examines Glory Sunergy's solid-state battery strategy across six dimensions: technology roadmap, product portfolio, capacity planning, corporate and IP profile, financing partnerships, and recent developments.

I. Technology Roadmap: Dual-Track Approach

Glory Sunergy pursues a clear two-tier technology strategy:

Near-term: Oxide-based semi-solid batteries (solid-liquid hybrid)

Partnering with Weilan Lanbo (Zibo), the company has developed oxide solid electrolyte-based semi-solid energy storage cells. These have obtained CQC certification (Certificate No. CQC26024505383, valid through June 29, 2030), compliant with GB/T 36276-2023 national standards for grid-scale and C&I energy storage applications. The light-asset OEM model enables rapid market entry.

Long-term: Sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries

The company has chosen the sulfide electrolyte route — widely regarded as the ultimate pathway for all-solid-state batteries. Sulfide electrolytes offer room-temperature ionic conductivity of 10⁻³ to 10⁻² S/cm, comparable to conventional liquid electrolytes, enabling fast charging (e.g., 80% in 15 minutes). This is the same direction pursued by Toyota and CATL.

However, challenges remain: poor chemical stability (H₂S generation upon moisture exposure), high material costs (lithium sulfide exceeding ¥1 million/ton), and interface stability issues with lithium metal anodes.

Market controversy: Investors have questioned whether the solid-state battery initiative is "more narrative than substance." In June 2026, the company officially responded that "solid-state battery operations have not yet commenced" and denied any concept-driven stock manipulation. The July 7 equipment move-in represents the third verifiable milestone (after CQC certification and patent publication), shifting the project from narrative-driven to engineering-verifiable territory.

Conclusion

In just four years since its founding, Glory Sunergy has executed a strategic pivot from pure-play PV to a "PV + energy storage" dual-pillar model. Its solid-state battery strategy is characterized by four features: forward-looking technology choice (sulfide route), complete value chain coverage (materials → cells → recycling), ambitious capacity planning (10GWh), and intensive capital deployment.

Whether the Tieling project can achieve on-schedule production, overcome sulfide route engineering challenges, and convert sales intentions into actual orders will determine the success of this cross-sector bet. The results of equipment commissioning and trial production in H2 2026 will provide the first concrete answers.

[Solid-State Battery: Sinocera Materials Constructs Automated Production Line for Sulfide Solid Electrolyte, Initial Mass Production Capability Established] On August 5, 2026, Sinocera Materials stated at an analyst meeting that as the industrialisation of all-solid-state batteries advances, sulfide solid electrolytes, due to advantages such as high ionic conductivity, have become a core critical material. The company has completed the construction of an automated production line for sulfide solid electrolyte, with initial mass production capacity established, and product quality has been highly recognized by clients. The company is closely supporting the industrialisation process of key downstream clients, and will subsequently plan the expansion pace reasonably based on changes in market demand and the industrialisation progress of downstream clients, collaboratively promoting the commercial implementation of all-solid-state batteries. This marks an important period for China's sulfide solid electrolyte sector transitioning from “laboratory samples” to “production line bulk supply,” filling a critical jigsaw piece for large-scale mass production in the upstream key material segment of the all-solid-state battery industry chain.
