[German May Industrial Output Exceeds Expectations, Car Production Rebounds Strongly]

Data released by the Federal Statistical Office on Tuesday showed that German industrial output was up 0.9% MoM in May, above market expectations of 0.2% and the previous reading of 0.4%, driven mainly by strong growth in automobile production. The data showed that output in the automotive sector rose 3.6% MoM. The less volatile three-month comparison data showed that from March to May, industrial output was 0.1% higher than in the preceding three months. After the revision of preliminary data, April's industrial output was up 0.2% MoM, down from the preliminary increase of 0.4%. Data released on Monday showed that German industrial orders rose 1.9% MoM in May, with the increase still notable even after stripping out large-scale orders for items such as aircraft, ships, trains, and military vehicles.
