【SMM Steel】Mexico urges US to eliminate steel tariffs to preserve USMCA competitiveness

【SMM Steel】Mexico has formally requested the elimination of Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs during USMCA review talks. Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard stated the 50% rate is “unacceptable and lacks justification” following May 27-29 discussions with USTR. Mexico also advocates a regional approach for the auto industry given North America's deep production integration and existing rules of origin. Additional negotiation rounds are scheduled for June and July. Mexico emphasizes that removing trade barriers is essential to restore North American manufacturing competitiveness against Asian markets.

[SMM Hot-Rolled Coil Daily Trading Volume] Spot Trading Volume Sees Narrow Changes

On July 21, the total daily trading volume of hot-rolled coil among sample enterprises in SMM's four cities (Shanghai, Lecong, Tianjin, and Ningbo) was 12,000 mt, up 340 mt (+2.8%) day-over-day, down 7.98% YoY on a Gregorian calendar basis, and down 10.98% YoY on a lunar calendar basis.
