[Solar: Taoyuan in Taiwan Province issues local guidelines for solar projects]

Published: May 19, 2026 09:12
Taoyuan in Chinese Taiwan has issued local guidelines for solar projects to strengthen environmental protection, safety management and panel recycling. The rules require self-inspections for projects on hillsides or environmentally sensitive areas, encourage early communication with local residents, and introduce third-party equipment checks after operation begins. Operators must also prepare damaged-panel storage plans after natural disasters. SMM believes the move reflects tighter local oversight on PV project siting, O&M safety and end-of-life recycling in Chinese Taiwan.

Wafer Trends Diverge, Solar Cells Pull Back Under Pressure, Film Stagnant and Wait-and-See [SMM Silicon PV Morning Meeting Minutes]
[SMM PV Silicon Morning Meeting Summary: Wafer Price Trends Diverge, Solar Cells Under Pressure with Pull Back, Film Stagnant with Wait-and-See Sentiment] Wafers: Prices clearly diverge; the 183 spec remains supported by outside China demand, while 210R and 210N see a periodic pull back. Enterprises accelerate shifting production to 183 spec and even convert 210 rods to alleviate shortages, but overall production still exceeds demand, raising inventory pressure for leading enterprises. Solar cells: Price centers move downward across all sizes, export destocking slows down, traders' purchases weaken, downstream wait-and-see sentiment intensifies, and near-term pressure is evident.

[SMM PV News Flash] Save over 70% on monthly electricity bills | Chint New Energy Empowers South Africa Saverite Mart Community Supermarket PV+ESS Project
Recently, the rooftop PV+ESS integration project of the Saverite Mart supermarket in South Africa, supplied entirely with modules by Chint New Energy, was successfully connected to the grid, becoming another landmark practice of Chint New Energy in South African community retail scenarios. After commissioning, the project can save over 70% of the supermarket's monthly electricity costs, with an estimated payback period of two and a half years, significantly reducing the supermarket's operating costs while safeguarding the community's "vegetable basket" and "rice bag" with stable and reliable green electricity.
