Sulphuric Acid Price Hikes Drove Cost Increase, Titanium Dioxide Market Prices Continued to Rise [SMM Spot Titanium Dioxide Express]

Published: Apr 9, 2026 16:14
[SMM Spot Titanium Brief: Sulphuric Acid Price Increases Drive Up Costs, Titanium Dioxide Market Prices Continue to Rise] On April 9, driven by the continued rise in sulphuric acid prices and growing cost pressure, inquiry prices in the titanium dioxide market increased. Anatase and rutile titanium dioxide prices are expected to rise slightly, while chloride-process titanium dioxide prices are expected to remain stable.

SMM April 9 Update:

On April 9, inquiry prices in China's titanium dioxide market rose compared to the previous day. According to SMM quotations, mainstream quotations for anatase titanium dioxide increased from 13,800-14,200 yuan/mt on April 8 to 14,000-14,500 yuan/mt; mainstream quotations for rutile titanium dioxide were referenced at 15,000-17,000 yuan/mt, with the average price rising slightly; chloride-process titanium dioxide quotations remained stable at around 16,500 yuan/mt.

Operating rates have been stable recently, and titanium dioxide supplies were sufficient. Downstream procurement remained moderate, with market transactions mainly driven by rigid-demand restocking. Influenced by the continued rise in upstream sulphuric acid prices and higher ocean freight rates, cost support strengthened, and leading major producers raised their prices. Currently, most producers in the market still aligned their quotations with those of major producers, and titanium dioxide prices are expected to continue to rise slightly in the short term.
