The "Zhongran Green Energy 85," China's first methanol bunkering vessel capable of operating nationwide in domestic waters, was launched in Zhejiang.

On January 23, China's first newly built methanol bunkering vessel with nationwide sea area operation capability, the "Zhongran Green Energy 85," was successfully launched in Zhejiang. This initiative significantly enhances China's cross-regional methanol bunkering service capability for the first time, providing broader infrastructure support for methanol-powered vessel energy replenishment.

Methanol is an important alternative fuel for vessels, and the improvement of its bunkering network is a key infrastructure link in promoting the development of green shipping. Operated by China Marine Bunker, the "Zhongran Green Energy 85" is an 8,500 DWT duplex stainless steel chemical tanker capable of operating in major coastal ports across the country.

As a core force in COSCO Shipping's clean energy layout, China Marine Bunker has established a multi-category fuel supply matrix covering clean fuel services such as biofuels, green methanol, and LNG. It has also obtained green methanol bunkering qualifications in multiple locations, including Shanghai Port and Ningbo Port, forming a complete service system of "procurement-storage and transportation-nationwide bunkering."

The successful launch of the "Zhongran Green Energy 85" not only provides more port options for vessel fuel replenishment, helping to build a methanol bunkering network covering key shipping nodes from north to south, but will also establish a clean energy supply chain for the shipping industry and implement emission reduction targets, offering solid infrastructure guarantees.

PLS announced that it has entered into a 2-year spodumene concentrate offtake agreement with Canmax Technologies, covering annual supply of 150kt, with an option to extend the agreement for an extra 12 months. The agreement sets a floor price of USD1,000/t on an SC6 basis, with no upside price cap, providing downside protection while retaining full exposure to price increases. Meanwhile, Canmax will provide a USD100 million unsecured, interest-free prepayment, which will be offset against future spodumene deliveries. Supply is scheduled to commence in 2026, subject to receipt of the prepayment, with material sourced from PLS’ Pilgangoora operation. The agreement is expected to enhance PLS’ near-term liquidity while maintaining production and sales flexibility through optional volumes.
