On January 27th, the National Energy Administration (NEA) issued a notice approving the establishment of 7 standardization technical organizations in the energy sector, including 4 specialized committees for hydrogen energy. The move aims to promote the standardized development of the hydrogen energy industry through improving the standard system.

It is reported that the 4 hydrogen energy-related committees established this time are the Energy Industry Hydrogen Energy Foundation and General Standardization Technical Committee (NEA/TC 48), Energy Industry Hydrogen Production Standardization Technical Committee (NEA/TC 49), Energy Industry Hydrogen Storage and Transportation Standardization Technical Committee (NEA/TC 50), and Energy Industry Hydrogen Energy Application Standardization Technical Committee (NEA/TC 51), covering key links of the entire hydrogen energy industrial chain.

Specifically, each committee has clear divisions of labor: NEA/TC 48 focuses on the research of general standards such as basic common requirements and terminology definitions of hydrogen energy; NEA/TC 49 is responsible for standardization work related to various hydrogen production technologies including water electrolysis hydrogen production and renewable energy hydrogen production, as well as hydrogen separation and purification; NEA/TC 50 leads the construction of standards in fields such as hydrogen storage and transportation technology management, equipment and key accessories, and processes; NEA/TC 51 focuses on advancing the standardization process of application scenarios such as hydrogen refueling, hydrogen-based fuels, hydrogen-electric synergy, and green hydrogen refining.

The NEA stated that the establishment of these standardization organizations is an important measure to implement the Energy Law of the People's Republic of China and strengthen the construction of the standard system in the energy sector, which will provide strong standard support for the high-quality development of China's hydrogen energy industry.
