On January 23, Sigma Lithium announced the sale of an additional 100,000 mt of high-purity lithium ore fine powder. The company reiterated in its announcement that the resumption of work by contractors' equipment and personnel at the mine site is progressing as planned and is expected to be completed in January 2026.
Sigma Lithium firmly denied recent media reports that inaccurately described the administrative procedure initiated by the Ministry of Labor and Employment as an "operational ban," referring to it as "fake news." In response to speculative reports by some media based on this administrative procedure regarding the safety conditions of the company's waste piles, the company clearly stated that such claims are completely untrue and emphasized that the administrative procedure does not constitute a significant matter.
Sales Details of High-Purity Lithium Ore Fine Powder
This transaction was based on the Shanghai Metals Market (SMM) lithium ore prices, equivalent to a net price of $140 per mt adjusted per 1% lithium oxide content (the current SMM price for 1.35% content is $195 per mt).
Sigma Lithium pointed out that the revenue from this high-purity fine powder sale represents a "green return" for the company's shareholders, benefiting from the company's investment in "cutting-edge technology" for environmental protection at its green tech plant. The related technology enables the company to achieve dry stacking of tailings and recover lithium element from the sale of high-purity fine powder. As a result, Sigma Lithium possesses the most environmentally sustainable lithium processing facilities in the industry, integrating dry stacking, 100% water recycling, zero use of toxic chemicals in the lithium processing process, and 100% renewable energy supply.
Clarification Regarding False Media Reports
Sigma Lithium has recently been the target of multiple false reports. The company stated that this is part of an organized, funded online defamation campaign that repeatedly disseminates false, inaccurate, and misleading information about the company and its management. The false statements in the latest reports regarding the administrative investigation by the Ministry of Labor and Employment into the company's waste piles and the safety of the piles are consistent with the tactics of this ongoing "fake news network smear campaign": approximately one month after the investigation began and only two days after the company issued a positive operational update on January 13, 2026, several "paid writer" type online media suddenly published a large number of defamatory articles claiming that the company had been shut down by the Ministry of Labor and Employment or even the "Brazilian government."
These allegations were primarily published by some sponsored content online media in Brazil and were subsequently republished by certain international mainstream online media and news agencies that lack fact-checking practices. This defamation campaign led to a wild swing in Sigma Lithium's stock price on January 16, with the trading volume reaching more than four times the Nasdaq daily average, and the stock price fell by approximately 30%, potentially allowing bears to profit. The company has reported to regulatory authorities such as the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (under the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission).
Brazil's Ministry of Labor and Employment initiated an administrative investigation into the company's scrap pile in mid-December, following a routine health and safety inspection. During the inspection, the ministry confirmed the company's outstanding safety record—no lost-time injuries for over two consecutive years. Sigma Lithium's management believes that this investigation did not, at its initiation or currently, constitute material information requiring disclosure and does not affect the company's operations, including the ongoing mine reopening plan.
The company's reopening plan is expected to maintain approximately 19,000 direct and indirect jobs in the Jequitinhonha Valley region, an objective highly aligned with the goals of Brazil's Ministry of Labor and Employment, the Brazilian government, and Sigma Lithium. Sigma Lithium's commercial success has significantly enhanced Brazil's leadership in critical minerals, positioning the country as a key player in the global supply chain of lithium oxide materials produced in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner, thereby supporting the energy transition.
