On January 16, 2026, the opening ceremony of the "Hydrogen Corridor" in south-west China and the launch ceremony for 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks under the Hydrogen Tong Fuyuan Integrated Wind and Solar Power Hydrogen Production and Refueling Project were grandly held at the Fuyuan County Coal Intelligent Logistics Park in Yunnan Province. The event was presided over by Cui Qingwen, Secretary of the Fuyuan County Committee. Representatives from government, enterprises, and academia, including Hou Haifeng, Member of the Qujing Municipal Committee Standing Committee and Vice Mayor; Wu Junjun, Member of the Baotou Municipal Government Party Group and First-Level Inspector; and Ren Yahui, Chairman and CEO of Hydrogen Tong Energy Group, jointly initiated the "Hydrogen Corridor" opening ceremony and witnessed the official launch of the 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks. This marks the entry of the first "Hydrogen Corridor" in south-west China into the substantive operation phase, representing a critical step towards the large-scale application of hydrogen energy.

Government, Enterprises, and Universities Unite to Chart a New Blueprint for Hydrogen Energy Development in South-West China

In his speech, Hou Haifeng, Member of the Qujing Municipal Committee Standing Committee and Vice Mayor, emphasized that Qujing City, leveraging its abundant wind and solar power resources, is prioritizing the hydrogen energy industry as a strategic emerging sector, vigorously promoting the deep integration of hydrogen energy with transportation, industry, logistics, and other fields. The opening of the south-west "Hydrogen Corridor" and the launch of the hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks are not only significant achievements of Hydrogen Tong Energy's deep cultivation in the south-west market but also a vivid practice of Qujing City's implementation of the "16th Five-Year Plan" green development strategy and its efforts to promote the integration of coal and new energy. "Qujing City will continue to optimize the business environment, increase investment in policy support, infrastructure development, and application scenario expansion, fully ensuring the efficient operation of the project, and promoting the formation of an entire industry chain ecosystem encompassing 'hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, hydrogen refueling, and hydrogen utilization,' contributing Qujing's strength to Yunnan's goal of building a strong green energy province."

Liu Deqiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, stated that the university possesses profound scientific research accumulation and talent reserves in areas such as hydrogen energy materials, hydrogen fuel cell technology, and energy system integration, and is always committed to facilitating the precise alignment of research outcomes with industrial needs. The joint establishment of the Hydrogen Energy Research Institute with Hydrogen Tong Energy is an important initiative for the university and the enterprise to jointly empower the development of the hydrogen energy industry. Both parties will focus on key areas including breakthroughs in core hydrogen energy technologies, cultivation of high-end talent, and formulation of industry standards, aiming to create an innovative platform integrating research, transformation, and talent cultivation, providing solid technical support for the construction of the south-west "Hydrogen Corridor" and the large-scale application of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks.

Ren Yahui, Chairman and CEO of Hydrogen Tong Energy Group, highlighted the project's innovative model. It is reported that the Hydrogen Tong Fuyuan Integrated Wind and Solar Power Hydrogen Production, Refueling, and Transport Platform Project has a total investment of 3.5 billion yuan and was officially launched in July 2025. It is a benchmark project deepening the "Shanghai Enterprise + Yunnan Resources" and "Shanghai R&D + Yunnan Manufacturing" models under Shanghai-Yunnan cooperation. Through its integrated layout of "wind power hydrogen production + hydrogen refueling station network + hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck operation," the project not only effectively addresses the pain points of high emissions and high costs in local coal transportation but also explores a replicable commercial path characterized by "leadership by the chain core, collaboration across the entire chain, and commercial self-circulation."The initial deployment of 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks will achieve an annual transport capacity exceeding 4.8 million mt, with future capacity expected to gradually expand to 500 and eventually 2,000 units. Ren Yahui revealed that starting from Fuyuan, the enterprise will accelerate the expansion of diversified hydrogen application scenarios, promoting the successful "Fuyuan Model" nationwide.

Three Major Strategic Partnerships Landed, Hydrogen Industry Ecosystem Accelerates Formation

During the event, three significant strategic cooperation agreements were successfully signed, laying a solid foundation for the long-term operation of the Southwest "Hydrogen Corridor." The University of Shanghai for Science and Technology and Shanghai Hydrogen Tong Energy Group Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the Southwest China Hydrogen Energy Research Institute, strengthening technological innovation capabilities; China National Coal Group Co., Ltd. and Hydrogen Tong Energy Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement to deepen collaborative development in areas such as green mine logistics; and PowerChina Northwest Engineering Corporation Limited and Hydrogen Tong Energy Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly advance the development and construction of integrated wind-solar-hydrogen-storage projects.

The implementation of these three agreements marks the further consolidation and expansion of the industrial ecosystem around the Southwest "Hydrogen Corridor," formally establishing a development framework involving government, industry, academia, research, and application stakeholders, providing comprehensive support for the entire hydrogen industry chain upgrade and large-scale application.

Heavy-Duty Trucks Adapted to Scenario Needs, "Hydrogen Corridor" Integration Empowers Green Transformation

The 300 hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks deployed this time were jointly developed by Hydrogen Tong Energy Group and Yutong Commercial Vehicles, specifically tailored to the high-altitude, long-distance, and heavy-load mining transport scenarios in Fuyuan. Equipped with Hydrogen Tong Energy's 130 kW large-power fuel cell system and a 262 kWh lithium battery, the vehicles achieve a driving range exceeding 600 km under standard 49 mt load conditions, support 15-minute rapid refueling, and feature quick cold-start capability at -30°C, with strong environmental adaptability and excellent climbing performance, perfectly meeting the high-frequency, heavy-load transport demands of mining areas.

With the launch of the corridor opening ceremony, the Southwest China "Hydrogen Corridor" linking Panzhou, Fuyuan, and Kunming was officially declared operational. This is not only the opening of a physical transport route but also a systematic integration of green hydrogen production, infrastructure networks, large-scale operational scenarios, and business models. Upon full operation, the project is expected to replace approximately 9,000 mt of diesel annually, supply 500 million kWh of clean electricity, save 160,000 mt of standard coal, reduce CO2 emissions by over 440,000 mt, and create 200 new jobs, achieving synergistic progress in industrial development and livelihood improvement.
