Fed's Bowman: Policy Stays Mildly Restrictive, Ready to Cut Rates Amid Stagnant Jobs

Published: Jan 17, 2026 15:13
Governor Bowman of the US Fed noted that the current monetary policy remains mildly restrictive. If the employment situation continues to show no improvement, Fed officials should be prepared to further lower interest rates. Until the labour market demonstrates significant and sustained signs of improvement, the US Fed must maintain flexibility in policy adjustments and steer policy back toward a neutral level. Bowman believes that inflationary pressures are gradually easing, while emphasizing that the US Fed should continue to focus on risks related to the "full employment" objective, taking forward-looking measures to stabilize and support the labour market.
