Recently, Weichai's hydrogen internal combustion engine generator set achieved China's first stable grid-connected operation using pure hydrogen for power generation, marking a critical step in the commercial application of hydrogen internal combustion engines in China and providing core support for the construction of industrial green microgrids and the high-quality development of the hydrogen energy sector.
This unit was deployed at the Wuxi Huaguang Huaneng microgrid demonstration project. As the core component of an industrial-grade generation-grid-load-storage integrated project, it efficiently accomplishes hydrogen energy conversion and stable green electricity supply, serving as a key pillar of the project's green energy system.
The accompanying WP13 hydrogen internal combustion engine was jointly customized by both parties, overcoming industry challenges such as unstable hydrogen combustion. Its speed fluctuation is controlled within ±3 r/min, meeting stringent grid-connection requirements, enabling the localized consumption of industrial by-product hydrogen, and supporting the development of zero-carbon industrial parks.
This grid connection established a green application model covering the entire hydrogen industry chain, providing a replicable example for the commercialization of hydrogen power generation and accelerating the scaling process of hydrogen internal combustion engine technology.
As an industry pioneer, Weichai has jointly launched the first commercial hydrogen internal combustion engine heavy-duty truck. In the future, the company will focus on diverse scenarios, develop high-quality solutions, accelerate the layout of the entire hydrogen industry chain through technological innovation, and contribute to the achievement of zero-carbon goals.
