Tracking Green Hydrogen Projects: Ulanqab 14,400 mt Green Hydrogen Project Receives Approval, Total Investment of 974 Million Yuan!

On January 4, 2026, the 14,400 mt/year hydrogen production project in Chahar Right Rear Banner, declared by Junrui Green Hydrogen Energy (Chahar Right Rear Banner) Co., Ltd., was officially approved. The project will be located in the New Materials Industrial Park of Chahar Right Rear Banner, Ulanqab City, with a total investment of 974 million yuan. It will rely on the abundant local renewable energy resources to build a green hydrogen production site, injecting new momentum into strengthening the regional hydrogen industry chain.

As an important supplementary project to Ulanqab's hydrogen industry cluster, this project adopts renewable energy-based water electrolysis for hydrogen production as its core technical route. It plans to construct one hydrogen production station with an annual hydrogen production capacity of 14,400 mt, equipped with 56 alkaline electrolyzers of 1,000 Nm³/h each and 14 hydrogen storage tanks of 2,000 m³ each. Supporting facilities including power distribution stations, demineralized water treatment systems, circulating cooling water systems, and hydrogen transmission systems will be built simultaneously. The total land area is 300 mu, with an equivalent annual operating time of 3,000 hours. The project is expected to commence construction in April 2026 and be completed and put into operation in October 2027. Upon operation, it will form a large-scale green hydrogen supply capacity, supporting the green hydrogen substitution demand in downstream sectors such as chemical and metallurgical industries.

The implementation of this project aligns with Ulanqab City's full-chain development plan for the hydrogen industry. As a region in China rich in new energy resources, Ulanqab is making every effort to build an integrated hydrogen industry chain covering "hydrogen production - storage and transportation - application." It has clearly set a goal to exceed 100,000 mt of new energy-based hydrogen production by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, focusing on promoting the application of green hydrogen in sectors such as chemical metallurgy and transportation. The New Materials Industrial Park in Chahar Right Rear Banner, as a core area for the regional hydrogen industry, has gathered multiple green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, forming an industrial cluster effect and providing a well-developed industrial supporting foundation for this project.

The alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production technology adopted by the project offers advantages such as compatibility with fluctuating wind and solar power and stable, reliable operation. It efficiently synergizes with Ulanqab's large-scale wind and solar power generation resources, enabling local consumption and efficient conversion of new energy electricity. The approval of this 14,400 mt/year hydrogen production project not only further expands the regional green hydrogen capacity scale but also promotes the deep integration of renewable energy and the hydrogen industry, providing important practical experience for Inner Mongolia to explore innovative development models in the new energy industry and implement national green and low-carbon development policies.
