The global hydrogen storage and transportation technology has achieved a milestone breakthrough. The world's first thousand-ton-scale high-efficiency magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage material demonstration project, led by Dalian Fude Jinyu New Energy Co., Ltd., recently broke ground in Yuheng Industrial Park, Yulin City, Shaanxi Province. Representatives from collaborative institutions including the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Yulin Institute of Clean Energy Innovation attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

With a total investment of 248 million yuan, the project is located at the Yuheng Comprehensive Pilot and Demonstration Base. Its core construction includes large-scale production facilities and supporting infrastructure with an annual output of 2,000 metric tons of magnesium hydride. Leveraging cutting-edge patented technology from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics and driven by multi-party industry-academia-research collaboration, the project builds on the stable operation of a prior hundred-ton-scale pilot production line, which yielded magnesium hydride products with purity ranging from 90% to 99%, laying a solid foundation for the thousand-ton-scale project.

Low efficiency and high costs in hydrogen storage and transportation are key bottlenecks restricting industrial scaling. Magnesium-based solid-state hydrogen storage materials enable safe, high-density hydrogen storage under ambient temperature and pressure, significantly reducing energy consumption and risks associated with storage and transport. As the world's first thousand-ton-scale production line, this project will serve as a "model project" for the industrialization of solid-state hydrogen storage technology, validating its economic viability and stability, and providing a replicable application model.

Leveraging China's globally leading magnesium resource advantages, the project ensures independent and controllable raw material supply, contributing to the construction of a secure and complete hydrogen industry chain. Its operation will accelerate the large-scale application of green hydrogen in sectors such as transportation, industry, and power, enabling the "renewable energy – green hydrogen – diversified applications" value chain and helping China seize strategic opportunities in the global energy transition.
