Recently, during the closure of Hainan, Mingyang Smart Energy successfully produced the first kg of hydrogen from offshore wind power in Hainan at its offshore wind turbine detection and testing base in Lingao, Hainan. This achievement was made possible by relying on its independently developed ion membrane flexible hydrogen production system, marking a zero breakthrough in the "offshore wind power-hydrogen production" coupling technology for the Hainan Free Trade Port.
Key Highlights:
- Technological Breakthrough: Overcoming the bottleneck of mainstream ALK hydrogen production systems' difficulty in operating stably below 30% of rated power, the ion membrane system can operate in the 0%–30% low-power range, with load following wind power fluctuations within seconds, stably producing 5N-grade high-purity hydrogen;
- Significance: Addressing the challenges of fluctuating new energy output and curtailment in Hainan, achieving the resourceful conversion of curtailed electricity, and adapting to local climate and energy conditions;
- Future Plans: Advancing the R&D of large-scale ion membrane hydrogen production systems and initiating the verification of offshore wind turbines' off-grid direct coupling for hydrogen production;
- Industrial Impact: Laying the foundation for Hainan to build a hydrogen production site and a cross-border industrial cluster of "new energy-high-end chemicals," accelerating the construction of a zero-carbon free trade port.
