Tracking Green Hydrogen Projects: CRRC Zhuzhou Institute's 500 Nm³/h PEM Electrolyzer Goes Offline | World's Largest Single PEM Electrolyzer

On December 14, the CRRC Zhuzhou Institute independently developed a 500 Nm³/h PEM electrolyzer was successfully rolled off the production line in Zhuzhou, Hunan. As the world's largest single PEM electrolyzer for market projects, this product achieves overall performance at an internationally advanced level, marking a significant breakthrough for CRRC Zhuzhou Institute in the marketization of large-scale PEM hydrogen production systems and injecting strong momentum into the industrialisation of China's green hydrogen equipment.

It is understood that this PEM electrolyzer was entirely independently developed by CRRC Zhuzhou Institute, focusing on the demands of green electricity hydrogen production scenarios, and possesses four core advantages: high current density, low DC energy consumption, wide load regulation range, and long service life. The core technical indicators are impressive: single stack hydrogen production ≥500 Nm³/h, peak current density up to 30,000 A/m², DC energy consumption ≤4.2 kWh/Nm³, operating pressure range 1.6–3.0 MPa, load regulation range better than 5%–120%, load fluctuation response rate ≥20%/s, and a design life of up to 80,000 hours.

Thanks to its excellent technical performance, this electrolyzer can precisely match the fluctuating output characteristics of new energy sources like wind and PV power, maximizing the utilization rate of green electricity and effectively solving the challenge of new energy consumption. Currently, the electrolyzer has passed the roll-off acceptance inspection and is expected to be shipped to the project site in Shaanxi for practical application, achieving a key leap from technology R&D to market implementation.
