[SMM PV News] Mexico approves 2.4 GW of solar projects

Mexico has officially restarted its renewable energy expansion with the approval of 20 new projects, marking a significant policy shift under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Energy Secretary Luz Elena González Escobar confirmed the addition of 3,320 MW to the national grid, ending a six-year period of paralysis in the sector during former President López Obrador's term.

The newly approved portfolio is heavily weighted toward solar energy, which comprises 15 projects totaling 2,471 MW, while five wind farms will contribute 894 MW. These approvals stem from an October call for proposals targeting the private sector. According to the preliminary schedule, the deployment will ramp up quickly, with nearly 80% of the capacity expected to come online in 2028.

[Solar: Australia's Frontier Energy seals contracts for Waroona hybrid solar-battery project in Western Australia]

Frontier Energy announced it has executed all major contracts for stage one of its Waroona Renewable Energy Project in Western Australia's southwest, comprising a 132 MW solar facility and an 81.5 MW/565 MWh battery energy storage system. [Solar: Malaysia launches LSS6 national solar programme with 2.5 GW solar and 1.25 GW storage]
