Recently, the National First Civil Hydrogen Liquefaction Plant, constructed and operated by Fuyang Zhongke Fuhai Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of China's unicorn enterprise Zhongke Fuhai Technology Co., Ltd.), successfully passed the approval of the Anhui Provincial Department of Emergency Management and officially obtained the "Work Safety License." The approval of this key qualification marks a substantial step forward in the large-scale and civilian development of liquid hydrogen in China. The enterprise's liquid hydrogen products are now legally and compliantly qualified for sale and operation, laying an important foundation for the high-quality and safe development of the hydrogen energy industry.
Liquid hydrogen, as a core form of hydrogen energy storage and transportation, is regarded as a key path to solving the challenges of large-scale, low-cost hydrogen storage and transportation, thanks to its advantages of high energy storage density, high transportation efficiency, low storage pressure, and good safety. Zhongke Fuhai has long been deeply involved in tackling core hydrogen energy technologies and promoting industrialisation. In 2020, as the lead unit, it jointly undertook the national key R&D project "Research on Key Equipment and Safety for Liquid Hydrogen Production, Storage, Transportation, and Refueling" with nine other units, including the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It established China's first demonstration plant for civil low-energy-consumption hydrogen liquefaction in Fuyang, Anhui, building a comprehensive system covering the entire chain of liquid hydrogen production, storage, refueling, and operation.
The plant adopts hydrogen liquefaction complete sets of equipment and process control systems independently developed by Zhongke Fuhai, with core technical indicators reaching internationally advanced levels: the adiabatic efficiency of the turbine expander reaches up to 83.52%, the liquefaction capacity under rated conditions reaches 5.27 mt/day, and the energy consumption for hydrogen liquefaction is reduced to a low level of 11.8 kW/h/kg-LH₂. The product liquid hydrogen has a para-hydrogen content exceeding 96% and a purity as high as 99.99996%, both strictly complying with the requirements of standards GB/T 40045-2021 and GJB 5405-2005. The entire set of equipment has achieved continuous stable operation for over 168 hours, fully verifying its technical reliability and process maturity.
A relevant responsible person from Zhongke Fuhai stated that the company will always adhere to the goals of "independent controllability, green efficiency, and safety reliability," continuously promote technological innovation in the fields of low-carbon energy and gas applications, fully leverage its role in technology and demonstration leadership, and provide a solid guarantee for the large-scale development of China's hydrogen energy industry and the transformation of the energy structure.
