PT Kalimantan Aluminium Industry Confirms Staged Start-up of 500,000-Tonne Smelter by 2025

Published: Dec 10, 2025 09:38
[SMM Aluminum Express News] PT Kalimantan Aluminium Industry (KAI), a subsidiary of Adaro Minerals (ADMR), has confirmed its 500,000-tonne-per-year aluminum smelter will commence staged operations before the end of 2025. The first phase of the project is in its final construction stage. The smelter's initial operation raises the prospect of a potential dividend for ADMR shareholders from the 2025 financial year. While the company has explored sourcing 50% of its alumina locally, it currently still relies on imports. The full project, including a dedicated power plant, represents a USD 2 billion investment, with future plans to expand capacity to 1.5 million tons and transition to renewable power (wind) by 2030.
