In early November, CIMC Green Energy Low Carbon Technology (Zhanjiang) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "CIMC Green Energy"), a subsidiary of CIMC Enric, successfully obtained the ISCC EU green certification for its methanol production unit (Processing Unit, abbreviated as PU) in the biomass liquid fuel (green methanol) project. This marks the completion of the full supply chain green certification, following the green certifications for the biomass raw material end and the storage and sales end, signifying the official launch of the first bio-methanol project in South China to receive ISCC EU certification.
The successful acquisition of the PU ISCC EU certification means that CIMC Enric's green methanol products fully comply with the REDIII regulations and the sustainability certification requirements of the EU ISCC, covering the entire product life cycle, and have successfully obtained the "passport" to integrate into the global renewable fuel supply ecosystem. CIMC Enric places great emphasis on supply chain compliance and risk management, strictly controlling the risk rating in the "low-risk" range by rigorously screening raw material categories and optimizing the supply chain layout; through an intelligent integrated data management system, it achieves full-chain traceability, making new breakthroughs in product carbon footprint management, fully demonstrating the project management team's capability in refined full-process management.
This project has achieved several key breakthroughs in the domestic and overseas renewable liquid fuel production field: firstly, it is the world's first green methanol production project using a diversified mix of biomass raw materials; secondly, it is the first case where a pure biomass gasification technology route for synthesizing green methanol (without coupled green hydrogen) has been successfully certified; thirdly, it innovatively connects the BECCUS with the bio-methanol synthesis process to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets, realizing a new breakthrough in the high-quality comprehensive utilization of bio-based carbon resources. Meanwhile, the project optimizes the energy cascade recovery and utilization model of each unit, significantly reducing the greenhouse gas intensity throughout the methanol product's life cycle, with GHG reduction effects notably better than those of similar projects.
CIMC Enric will take this PU certification as a starting point, ensuring large-scale production of green methanol through technological innovation and refined management, accelerating the application of advanced low-carbon technologies. Leveraging the superior geographical location of the first demonstration plant, it will provide global shipping industry customers with more efficient and economical options for decarbonizing ship fuels, helping them effectively reduce EU carbon allowance costs (EUA), significantly enhancing the zero-carbon emission compliance pooling effect of fleets, and comprehensively lowering the compliance costs for shipping companies, contributing to the global response to climate change.
