On November 17, China Nuclear Energy Integration Co., Ltd. and Shanghai International Port Group Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. officially signed a strategic cooperation agreement on green methanol in Beijing. This collaboration not only marks a significant breakthrough for China Nuclear Energy Integration in promoting the diversified application of green energy and building a clean shipping industry chain, but also represents a key initiative by both parties to actively implement the national "dual carbon" strategy and accelerate the cultivation of new quality productive forces.
As the first commercial pilot project of China Nuclear Energy Integration in the field of green methanol, the Jilin Tongyu Green Hydrogen-Based Energy Integrated Project is progressing in an orderly manner. The project plans to construct a million-kW-level wind farm, relying on the "electricity-hydrogen-methanol" technological pathway to achieve efficient conversion from clean electricity to green fuel, and is committed to building a benchmark green methanol industrial base in the Northeast region. Upon full operation, the project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 3 million mt annually, equivalent to recreating about 15,000 hectares of forest, providing solid industrial support for achieving the "dual carbon" goals.
Against the backdrop of the global shipping industry accelerating its decarbonization process and the rising demand for green methanol, this cooperation holds significant strategic importance. China Nuclear Energy Integration will fully leverage the large-scale capacity advantages of the Jilin Tongyu Project, while Shanghai Port Energy will rely on its core capabilities in port infrastructure and shipping network resources. The two parties will form strategic synergies to jointly build a complete supply chain system covering the entire chain of green methanol "production-transportation-bunkering," providing integrated solutions for the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry.
This strategic cooperation signifies a solid step forward for China Nuclear Energy Integration in exploring the integrated development path of "new energy + shipping." In the future, China Nuclear Energy Integration will continue to deepen the layout of the green energy industry chain, strengthen technological innovation and strategic synergy, and consistently contribute "China Nuclear Power" to promoting the transformation of the energy structure and low-carbon development in the transportation sector.
Wang Jie, Commercial Director of Shanghai International Port Group Energy (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., and Lu Jingyi, Commercial Manager, along with Ouyang Zhaohui, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of China Nuclear Energy Integration, Yang Xiaojun, Deputy Chief Economist, and relevant responsible persons from the Investment Development Department, Science and Technology Innovation Center, and Investment Development Center of both parties attended the signing and discussion session.
