On November 6, Shenyang Petroleum and Natural Gas Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shenyang Gas Group Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Green Dynamic Methanol Technology Service Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Geely Automobile Group Co., Ltd., held a signing ceremony in Shenyang, officially launching the Shengli Methanol Refueling Station renovation project. This initiative marks the official implementation of methanol vehicle refueling projects in Shenyang, signifies the beginning of the new energy strategic cooperation between Shenyang Gas Group and Geely Group, and further indicates that Shenyang's new energy projects have entered a new phase of diversified development. It is expected to inject strong momentum into the local energy structure transformation and adjustment, as well as the construction of a green, low-carbon modern energy system.

Currently, Shenyang is in a critical period of collaboratively advancing carbon reduction, pollution control, ecological expansion, and growth, aiming to build a benchmark city for ecological civilization and green development, comprehensively promote the green transformation of development modes, and deepen the construction of national carbon peak pilot cities. To implement the requirements outlined in documents such as the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council's "Opinions on Accelerating the Comprehensive Green Transformation of Economic and Social Development," the "Guiding Opinions on the Application of Methanol Vehicles in Some Regions" jointly issued by eight departments including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), and the MIIT's "14th Five-Year Plan for Industrial Green Development," provincial and municipal governments have strictly followed national deployments to formulate local policies. By coordinating the construction of methanol fuel refueling systems and promoting the application of methanol vehicles, they aim to build a green, low-carbon circular economy system and have made the strategic deployment of "establishing a methanol energy application demonstration system." This is driven through policy guidance, resource coordination, and market cultivation to promote the coordinated development of methanol vehicles and supporting infrastructure.

As a state-owned public utility enterprise, Shenyang Petroleum and Natural Gas Co., Ltd. has actively responded to the calls of the national, provincial, and municipal governments, taken proactive responsibility, and quickly seized development opportunities. The company has identified the methanol refueling station project as a breakthrough point for its business transformation and addressing development challenges. It has actively engaged in cooperation with Geely Group to promote the implementation of methanol projects in Shenyang. Leveraging its extensive experience in infrastructure operation, the company conducted in-depth research from multiple dimensions, including the city's regional advantages, traffic flow distribution, and industrial synergy, and selected nine refueling stations as pilot sites for business transformation. The plan is to use these points to drive broader efforts, assisting Shenyang in exploring a green, low-carbon, high-quality development path amid revitalization and new breakthroughs.

The Shengli Methanol Refueling Station is the first new energy methanol project under planning to be implemented. It involves renovating an existing refueling station, with an independent investment of 1.05 million yuan. The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, and the station is scheduled to be put into use in 2026. Once operational, it will effectively fill the current supply-demand gap between methanol refueling infrastructure and the growing number of vehicles, providing users with a new energy option. Notably, the carbon emissions over the full life cycle of methanol fuel are significantly lower than those of traditional fuels, and its large-scale promotion is expected to directly drive carbon reduction in the transportation sector. Taking Shengli Station as an example, based on first-year methanol sales of 912,500 liters, it can replace an equivalent amount of traditional fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately a thousand metric tons. As more methanol vehicles are put into use in the future, the annual emission reduction benefits will achieve a leap in scale. The cooperation between Shenyang Petroleum & Natural Gas Co., Ltd. and Geely Group, through the synergistic model of "vehicle manufacturing + refueling infrastructure" across the industry chain, will accelerate the penetration of methanol energy in the transportation sector.

It is reported that Shenyang City plans to construct over 40 methanol refueling stations. As these stations are gradually completed, the city will establish an efficient methanol refueling service network covering the entire area, providing not only stable energy support for the large-scale deployment of methanol passenger cars and light trucks, but also dual support of "energy substitution + infrastructure" for the city's new energy system development and the achievement of its carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
