On the opening day of Gastech 2025 in Milan, Italy, on September 9, UK-based net-zero technology innovator CATAGEN Group officially launched its ClimaHtech compressor technology, marking a major innovative leap in hydrogen compression. The product includes both stationary and mobile compressor models, designed to transform the energy efficiency, cost, and reliability of hydrogen refueling and distribution applications.
At the event, CATAGEN Group Chairman Dr. Andrew Woods and ClimaHtech COMPRESS CEO Stephen Treanor introduced the technology at the CATAGEN booth. It is understood that the ClimaHtech compressor utilizes CATAGEN's patented hybrid liquid piston system, eliminating traditional mechanical components such as separators or pistons, compressing hydrogen via a liquid column while simultaneously extracting heat, achieving top-tier thermodynamic efficiency. Dr. Andrew Woods stated that the compressor saves an average of 28% in energy, reduces total cost of ownership by 30%, and is ready for global deployment through licensing or strategic partnerships.
Product-wise, the stationary compressor supports hydrogen refueling, trailer refueling, and ESS applications, with a compression range from 30 to 700 bar; the mobile compressor offers a compact refueling platform, equipped with onboard storage and an H35 nozzle, suitable for off-road or remote vehicle refueling scenarios, with pressures up to 350 bar. Developed by the CATAGEN team at the Belfast Net Zero Park, this technology has attracted global attention and can be applied in areas such as hydrogen refueling stations (for roads), electrolysis integration, and mobile or trailer storage solutions. It is currently available through CATAGEN's Strategic Partner Program for licensing or technical support, with approved partners gaining access to technical design packages and IP.
As one of CATAGEN's proprietary technologies to accelerate the global clean energy transition, this compressor, together with the company's pioneering sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), biohydrogen, and e-fuel reactors, forms the ClimaHtech platform, aiding large-scale decarbonization. Dr. Woods also spoke at the Industrial Decarbonization Panel of the Gastech Hydrogen Conference Series, sharing insights on next-generation solutions to unlock hard-to-abate sectors.
