On November 3, the "Green Hydrogen, Ammonia, and Methanol Industry Cluster Promotion Conference" was successfully held in Xilinhot. This conference, hosted by the Xilingol League Administrative Office of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the China Industrial Development Promotion Association, and organized by the Xilingol League Energy Bureau, the People's Government of Xi Wuzhumuqin Banner, and the Hydrogen Energy Branch of the China Industrial Development Promotion Association, provided an important platform for the development of the hydrogen energy industry.
Yu Tong, President of the China Industrial Development Promotion Association, attended the conference and delivered a speech. He pointed out that hydrogen, with its zero-carbon and non-polluting nature and high energy storage density, is a key technology to address the intermittency issues of wind and solar power generation, playing a significant role in building a new energy system and achieving the "dual carbon" goals. Currently, the green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol industry, leveraging its unique technological advantages and strategic value, is moving from concept to practice, becoming an important link between green electricity and end-use applications. According to incomplete statistics, as of October 2025, China has cumulatively planned over 800 integrated hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol projects, with a combined planned green hydrogen capacity of nearly 9 million mt/year. The construction completed capacity exceeds 200,000 mt/year, placing it at the forefront globally.
Yu Tong emphasized that the Xilingol League is rich in renewable energy resources and, as one of the "nine large-scale modern wind power bases" under national key planning and construction, is expected to have a new energy installed capacity exceeding 30,000 MW by 2025. Leveraging the advantage of green electricity, the league had constructed a green hydrogen capacity of over 6,000 mt/year as of April 2025, and plans to reach a hydrogen production capacity of 100,000 mt or more by 2027, demonstrating a strong momentum in the development of the hydrogen energy industry.
At the same time, he also acknowledged that the green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol industry faces challenges such as high production costs, insufficient cross-sectoral technology integration and verification of large-scale production technologies, and an incomplete standard system. In response, the China Industrial Development Promotion Association is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Xilingol League and promote high-quality industrial development in three aspects: first, optimizing overall production costs by tackling key equipment technologies such as electrolyzers and reducing electricity costs; second, organizing joint efforts between new energy and chemical enterprises to connect the "green electricity-green hydrogen-green ammonia and methanol" industry chain; third, improving the domestic standard system and enhancing international cooperation to align certification standards.
