Southwest China's First Integrated Hydrogen Production and Refueling Station Strives to Achieve Annual Targets

On November 5, during the "Industrial Achievements of the 14th Five-Year Plan: A Look at Sichuan – 2025 National Economic Media Chiefs' Sichuan Tour" event, the Oriental Hydrogen Energy Industrial Park became a focus of attention. A relevant person in charge of Oriental Hydrogen Energy introduced to the guests that the hydrogen production area on the left side of the station can produce 600 standard cubic meters of hydrogen per hour, which is directly transported via dedicated pipelines to the hydrogen refueling area on the right. Taking a 4.5 mt hydrogen fuel cell refrigerated truck as an example, refueling takes only 8 to 10 minutes, providing a driving range of 400 kilometers.

Unlike traditional hydrogen refueling stations that rely on external hydrogen production and transportation, this station uses water electrolysis technology to produce 1,200 kg of hydrogen per day. "Through direct pipeline transportation, the transportation cost per kilogram of hydrogen can be reduced by 8 to 10 yuan," the aforementioned person in charge pointed out, noting that this not only significantly lowers operational costs but also effectively mitigates the safety risks associated with hydrogen transportation.

In the membrane electrode production workshop, fully automated production lines operate in an orderly manner. As the "heart" of the fuel cell, membrane electrodes undergo precise combination of the catalytic layer and proton exchange membrane in slot-die coating equipment, and are then pressed into complete components by an automatic packaging system. Technical personnel explained that the entire production line achieves continuous production from roll to sheet, with an annual capacity exceeding 1 million pieces. This high-precision production line not only enhances efficiency but also ensures the safety of hydrogen and oxygen isolation, laying the foundation for the large-scale application of fuel cells.

Notably, in September this year, the park also established and put into operation Sichuan Province's first, and the nation's second, onboard hydrogen cylinder detection line. This detection line, relying on the National Market Supervision Technology Innovation Center, undertakes the regular inspection tasks for hydrogen fuel cell vehicle cylinders. Currently, hydrogen buses operating in Chengdu have begun normal inspections, marking a breakthrough in hydrogen energy equipment detection capability in south-west China. "From hydrogen production, storage, and transportation to application and detection, we have built a complete hydrogen energy industry chain," said a relevant person in charge of Oriental Hydrogen Energy, adding that the park is currently steadily advancing its Q4 production plan and striving at full capacity towards the annual output value target.
