Australian junior miner Canyon Resources is expanding its ambitions in Cameroon through a major logistics operation that could reshape the country's bauxite landscape. Via its local subsidiary Camalco, the miner plans to invest $446 million (CFA 252.6 billion) to accelerate the development of the Minim Martap deposit in the Adamawa region.

In a joint statement dated October 6, 2025, Camalco and Camrail confirmed that 70% of the total investment, amounting to CFA 176.8 billion, will be allocated to railway equipment. This includes 22 diesel locomotives from CRRC and 560 open wagons from India’s Texmaco Rail & Engineering.

The partners stated, "To support an annual bauxite production capacity of 10 million tonnes, Camalco has placed orders with CRRC for 22 diesel locomotives and with India’s Texmaco for 560 open wagons." A 20-year rolling stock maintenance agreement has been signed, with an option to add 1,040 more wagons within five years.
