World's First Mobile Zero-Carbon Hydrogen Production and Power Generation Unit Unveiled at China Hydrogen Energy Industry Conference

On October 22, 2025, at the 2025 China Hydrogen Energy Industry Conference, the world's first movable zero-carbon hydrogen production and power generation unit, jointly developed by Guangdong Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau of China Southern Power Grid, Jiangmen State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, Jiangteng Power Group, and the academician team led by Liu Xingjun from Kunming University of Science and Technology, was officially released. This unit achieves a dual breakthrough of "hydrogen produced for immediate use" and "zero carbon emissions," providing a novel green solution for scenarios such as ensuring power supply for large-scale events and emergency power supply.

Core Technology and Performance Advantages of the Unit

The unit, with aluminum-based material instant hydrogen production technology at its core, integrates an efficient fuel cell power generation system, a high-capacity ESS unit, and an intelligent energy management platform, establishing a full-chain zero-carbon operation system of "hydrogen production - power generation - charging - discharge." Its technical pathway shows significant advantages compared to traditional hydrogen energy equipment:

Outstanding Safety Performance: Adopting a "production-use closed-loop" design, it eliminates reliance on hydrogen storage and transportation infrastructure. From the storage and transportation of aluminum-based materials to the operation and power generation of the unit across all scenarios, no hazardous chemicals or toxic substances are involved, enabling barrier-free flexible deployment in any area and avoiding the safety risks associated with traditional methods like cylinder hydrogen storage.

Excellent Operational Characteristics: It features rapid start-up, millisecond-level grid connection capability, low operational noise, and adaptability to a wide temperature range. Even under extreme conditions, it can provide stable power supply, perfectly meeting the high requirements of large-scale events for being "green and environmentally friendly, low-noise operation, and zero power supply interruption."

Intelligent Safety and Control: Equipped with multiple active safety systems such as hydrogen leakage monitoring, thermal management control, automatic fire suppression, and remote operation and maintenance, it ensures safe and reliable operation in unattended environments, with comprehensively enhanced integration and intelligence levels.

Application in the 15th National Games and Industrial Value

To meet the power assurance needs for the Jiangmen venues of the 15th National Games, the Jiangmen Power Supply Bureau has pre-planned the access points for this unit. As an important emergency power supply, it will be connected to the existing distribution network to form a complementary linkage with the city grid. Utilizing "zero interruption" switching technology, it will provide stable power support for core loads such as high-definition broadcasting, smart lighting, timing and scoring systems, and medical rescue. This marks the first time an instant hydrogen production emergency power supply has been deployed for a domestic large-scale comprehensive sports event, filling a gap in the domestic field for high-safety standard, low-noise, rapidly deployable zero-carbon power supplies.

In the long term, the application scenarios of this unit can be further extended to areas such as urban emergency repair, power supply in remote areas, power assurance for major events, and national defense support, effectively expanding the application boundaries of clean energy in the field of mobile power generation. As a landmark achievement in hydrogen energy technology innovation in Jiangmen, its implementation has not only injected momentum into the construction of a green energy system in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area but has also promoted the industrialisation of cutting-edge technologies such as aluminum-based hydrogen production, providing a replicable "Jiangmen Solution" for the diversified application of hydrogen energy.
