Tracking Green Hydrogen Projects: Construction of Hydrogen Pipeline Advances at Three Gorges Narisong PV Hydrogen Production Project, Targeting Official Commissioning in November

On October 27, 2025, the Three Gorges Group Electronic Tender Procurement Platform released the "Tender Announcement for the Hydrogen Pipeline Construction Project of the Ordos City Jungar Banner Narisong PV Hydrogen Production Industrial Demonstration Project," marking the entry of the hydrogen production and transportation phase of this national demonstration project into the substantive construction stage.

As the first PV hydrogen production project of the Three Gorges Group and also China's first 10kt-scale new energy hydrogen production project, the Narisong Project is located in Jungar Banner, Ordos City, and is implemented by Ordos City Hanxia New Energy Co., Ltd. The project's core configuration includes 15 sets of alkaline electrolysis hydrogen production equipment with a capacity of 1,000 Nm³/hour each, designed to produce approximately 10,000 mt of hydrogen and 80,000 mt of oxygen annually. The energy source comes from green electricity generated by a 400,000 kW PV power station, with 80% of the power generation dedicated to the hydrogen production process.

Project progress shows key periods were successfully achieved: the first volume of hydrogen was successfully produced on June 29, 2023, marking the transition from planning to output; on December 28 of the same year, the supporting PV green electricity achieved full-capacity grid connection, providing stable energy support for the hydrogen production plant; a tender announcement for outsourced hydrogen production operation and maintenance services released in August 2025 clarified that the project has completed full-process joint commissioning and is expected to officially commence operation in early November 2025. During normal operation over the next two years, up to 8 electrolyzers will be activated, with a maximum hydrogen production capacity of 8,000 Nm³/h.

To ensure hydrogen storage and transportation capacity after operation begins, the project completed a renovation filing on September 16, 2025, adding facilities including a hydrogen storage spherical tank with a diameter of 10.8 meters and a water volume of 640 m³, along with 350 meters of supporting hydrogen pipelines, with a total investment of 10.459 million yuan. The hydrogen pipeline project under this tender will connect the hydrogen production plant to the existing hydrogen pipeline of Xingyang Technology Company, with a construction period of 60 days. Upon completion, it will establish a complete industry chain of "hydrogen production - hydrogen storage - hydrogen transportation," laying the foundation for supplying hydrogen to downstream sectors such as chemicals and transportation.
