On September 30, the group standard "Multi-Pulse Thyristor Rectifier for Hydrogen Production by Water Electrolysis" (T/CAPID 013—2025), officially released by the China Industrial Development Promotion Association, came into effect, marking a new phase in the standardization and regulation of core power supply equipment for large-scale hydrogen production by water electrolysis. This standard was led by Sichuan Huanneng Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Hubei Enterlee Electric Co., Ltd., Paire Hydrogen Technology Co., Ltd., Sichuan University, and over twenty other key enterprises and research institutions along the industry chain, providing crucial technical references for the high-quality development of green hydrogen equipment manufacturing.

Core contents of the standard:

  • Scope and positioning: The standard comprehensively stipulates the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, as well as marking, packaging, transportation, and storage for multi-pulse thyristor rectifiers used in hydrogen production by water electrolysis, primarily addressing the core needs for stable and efficient power supply in large-scale water electrolysis hydrogen production scenarios.
  • Technical parameters and requirements: Focusing on the thyristor rectifier, a key power conversion device, the standard sets clear technical indicators for its performance, reliability, and safety in hydrogen production applications, aiming to ensure the high efficiency, stability, and long-term operation of the electrolyzer power supply system.

Technical integration and industry value
The formulation of this standard fully embodies the deep integration of "industry-university-research-application," with its core highlight being the targeted resolution of the standardization bottleneck for power supply equipment in hydrogen production by water electrolysis. Multi-pulse rectification technology can effectively reduce harmonic pollution and improve the power factor, which is critical for ensuring the quality of grid electricity and the overall efficiency of the hydrogen production system. This standard unifies the technical specifications and testing methods for such products, providing authoritative references for equipment manufacturing, selection and acceptance, and industry supervision, thereby significantly promoting the interoperability and cost optimization of hydrogen production power supply equipment.

Industry strategic significance and industrial impact
As a key equipment standard in the upstream of the hydrogen energy industry chain, its release and implementation fill the gap in group standards for power supply in hydrogen production by water electrolysis. Led by Huanneng Hydrogen Technology, it gathers units from the entire chain including rectifier manufacturers, hydrogen equipment providers, and end-user design institutes, demonstrating a consensus on promoting the standardization of core technologies through industry collaboration. This standard not only helps to enhance the reliability and competitiveness of domestically produced rectifier equipment, reducing project investment and technical risks, but also lays a solid foundation for the large-scale, high-quality development of the entire green hydrogen industry by regulating core components, serving as an important part in building a safe, efficient, and independently controllable hydrogen equipment system.

The successful release of this standard reflects the current trend in the green hydrogen industry towards developing a standardized, high-performanceentire industry chain equipment system. In particular, the standardization of the power supply, a critical component known as the "heart of hydrogen production," indicates that China's green hydrogen industry is beginning to break through the cost-effectiveness bottleneck from a system integration perspective, providing a solid "standard cornerstone" for the standardized construction and safe, reliable operation of future gigawatt-scale green hydrogen projects.
