Shaanxi Hydrogen and the Sixth Academy of Aerospace Science deepened their strategic cooperation in liquid hydrogen, jointly establishing a demonstration benchmark for the entire industry chain.

On September 4, Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy Industrial Development Co., Ltd. and the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation held a promotion meeting for the liquid hydrogen application demonstration project. Both parties conducted in-depth discussions on project implementation, technological collaboration, and industrial layout. Huang Ye, Party Secretary and Chairman of Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy, and Wang Wanjun, President of the Sixth Academy, attended the meeting, marking a new phase of central-local cooperation in the hydrogen energy sector.

Collaboration Foundation: Dual Support of Hydrogen Supply and Technological Reserves

Huang Ye revealed at the meeting that Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy has established a full-chain ecosystem covering "production, storage, transportation, refueling, and utilization": a 100,000 kW PV project has been put into operation, a solid oxide fuel cell base is operational, a 3,000 mt/year green hydrogen project and a 2,000 mt/year chemical hydrogen purification project are expected to commence operation soon, and the Shenmu multi-coupled hydrogen energy integration project is steadily progressing, forming an annual hydrogen supply capability exceeding 5,000 mt. These initiatives provide stable "supplies" for the liquid hydrogen demonstration project, while leveraging the abundant industrial by-product hydrogen resources and new energy hydrogen production scenarios in Yulin to build a low-cost hydrogen supply matrix.

The Sixth Academy showcased its "core competencies" in the liquid hydrogen field: as the first central state-owned enterprise in China to break through liquid hydrogen storage and transportation technologies, its hydrogen liquefaction systems, onboard liquid hydrogen tanks, and 40-foot tank containers have been validated in demonstration projects in Panzhihua and Nanchong, with costs reducible by over 40% under mass production. Wang Wanjun emphasized that the Academy will use this collaboration as an opportunity to accelerate the transition of liquid hydrogen technology from aerospace-grade to commercial applications, focusing on overcoming bottlenecks such as high-pressure hydrogen storage and long-distance transportation.

Collaboration Pathway: Task Force Promotion + Full-Chain Synergy

Both parties outlined a "three-step" strategy:

Project Breakthrough:Establish a joint task force to focus on the MIIT's liquid hydrogen transportation application demonstration project, completing the first liquid hydrogen transportation route in Yulin by the end of 2025, covering scenarios such as hydrogen-powered heavy trucks and port machinery;

Joint R&D:Co-establish a "Liquid Hydrogen Technology Innovation Consortium" to jointly tackle technologies like liquid hydrogen refueling station design and intelligent monitoring, aiming to increase the localisation rate of hydrogen liquefaction systems to 95%;

Industrial Expansion:Leveraging Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy's hydrogen pipeline network layout in the Inner Mongolia-Shaanxi region (e.g., the Hangjinqi project) and the Sixth Academy's equipment manufacturing strengths, create a closed loop of "green hydrogen production — liquid hydrogen storage and transportation — application scenarios," targeting the formation of a 10-billion-yuan liquid hydrogen industrial cluster by 2027.

Strategic Significance: A Hydrogen Energy Model of Central-Local Collaboration

This collaboration is a typical example of the "central enterprise technology + local resources" model. Shaanxi Hydrogen Energy, as a provincial chain leader, possesses the largest green hydrogen base resources in Northwest China and over 100 hydrogen-powered heavy truck application scenarios, while the Sixth Academy, with 60 years of liquid propulsion technology expertise, fills the gap in the industrialisation of domestic liquid hydrogen equipment. The two parties plan to establish replicable experience in "low-cost hydrogen production - efficient storage and transportation - large-scale application" through the Yulin demonstration project, providing the "Shaanxi Model" for the nationwide commercialization of liquid hydrogen.

Notably, this marks the third high-level engagement between the two parties within six months. Following the June visit to the Sixth Academy's liquid hydrogen production line and the August deepening of the Hanggin Banner project, this meeting signifies the transition of cooperation from intent to implementation. The liquid hydrogen demonstration project is expected to contribute 15% of Shaanxi's hydrogen energy revenue by 2026, supporting the province in building China's first cross-regional liquid hydrogen distribution network and providing hydrogen energy solutions for the "dual carbon" goals.
