Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Sept. 8, Uber and Momenta announced at the IAA MOBILITY 2025 that Munich will become the first city to host their jointly developed Robotaxi service, with operations scheduled to begin in 2026. The launch marks a significant step in their strategic partnership and lays the groundwork for broader deployment of autonomous ride-hailing services across Europe.

As Germany’s automotive hub and a global innovation center, Munich provides fertile ground for the project. The city has cultivated a world-class mobility ecosystem and remains open to new transport solutions. Momenta already maintains close ties with leading German automakers, including Mercedes-Benz and BMW, giving it a strong foothold in the region.

For Uber, the Munich rollout reflects its ambition to integrate autonomous driving into its global mobility network. The company’s CEO Dara Khosrowshahi noted that Germany has shaped the world’s automotive industry for more than a century, and Munich is now positioned to help shape the future of self-driving mobility.

Momenta, led by CEO Cao Xudong, sees the launch as an opportunity to demonstrate how its AI-driven Level 4 autonomous technology can transform urban travel. The company has pursued a “flywheel and two legs” strategy since its founding, linking mass-produced Level 2 driver-assistance systems with Level 4 Robotaxi solutions under a unified software and sensor architecture. By leveraging production-ready vehicle platforms, Momenta aims to accelerate the commercialization and scaling of robotaxi services. To date, more than 400,000 vehicles equipped with its assisted-driving systems are already on the road.

The partnership between Uber and Momenta was first unveiled in May, with plans to bring autonomous vehicles to international markets outside the United States and China. Once the Munich service goes live, local riders will be able to book Momenta-powered Robotaxis directly through the Uber app, experiencing what the companies describe as safe and seamless driverless travel.

World's First Mass-Produced Sodium-Ion Battery Passenger Vehicle Officially Unveiled
On February 5, Changan Automobile unveiled its global sodium-ion battery strategy, and the world's first mass-produced sodium-ion battery passenger vehicle was officially introduced. Test data shows that the vehicle equipped with CATL's sodium-ion battery delivers nearly three times the discharge power compared to conventional lithium iron phosphate vehicles with the same battery capacity under -30°C conditions. In extreme cold environments of -40°C, it maintains over 90% capacity retention, and it can still discharge stably even at the extreme low temperature of -50°C.
