Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On September 5, 2025, Valeo, a global leader in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Momenta, a Chinese leading autonomous driving technology firm. The two companies will establish a broad, long-term partnership in China and worldwide to jointly develop next-generation mid- to high-level ADAS and autonomous driving products, systems, and solutions.
Valeo said its portfolio spans every stage of assisted and automated driving, from entry-level systems through L2, L3, and up to L4 capabilities. Its offering includes one of the market's most comprehensive sensor suites—covering cameras, ultrasonic sensors, millimeter-wave radar, and LiDAR—as well as central, domain, and zonal controllers, supported by AI-enabled software architecture. Notably, all three of the world's first mass-produced L3 conditional automated vehicles are equipped with Valeo's SCALA™ LiDAR.
Momenta, meanwhile, has emerged as a global pioneer in intelligent driving. The company was the first to achieve large-scale deployment of a reinforcement learning–based model—the Momenta R6 Flywheel big model—making it both one of the most advanced driver-assistance algorithms worldwide and the first of its kind to reach mass production in China.
Unlike imitation learning, which simply replicates human behavior, reinforcement learning enables AI systems to evolve beyond human capabilities. Momenta's R6 model can experiment with new driving behaviors in simulated environments, learn from both successes and failures, and continuously improve. This allows it to deliver safety and reliability that may surpass human performance, while also providing smoother, more natural driving and greater efficiency. Momenta's technology is already in production with leading automakers around the world, with over 400,000 vehicles on the road equipped with its ADAS solutions—and that number is steadily rising.
By combining their strengths, Valeo and Momenta aim to advance the state of the art in ADAS. The collaboration will focus on computing platforms, sensor technologies, and software integration, producing system-level solutions designed to accelerate the global shift toward intelligent mobility.
The partnership also covers end-to-end support for automakers, from market development and joint product creation to system integration and continuous upgrades. Both companies intend to explore broader forms of cooperation that will help manufacturers accelerate the transition from development to real-world deployment of autonomous technologies. Valeo has already secured project orders from four customers under the new framework and is in talks with several other OEMs about future collaboration.
