SMM September 1 News:
Key Points: On August 29, 2025, at the Chengdu International Auto Show, SAIC MG launched the new MG4 "Semi-Solid-State Safety Edition" with a limited-time subsidy price of 99,800 yuan, making it the world's first mass-produced car model to introduce semi-solid-state battery technology below the 100,000 yuan threshold.
On August 29, 2025, at the Chengdu International Auto Show, SAIC MG launched a groundbreaking version of its all-new MG4—the "Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition"—with a limited-time subsidized price of 99,800 yuan, entering the 100,000-yuan pure electric vehicle market and bringing semi-solid-state battery technology into the mainstream price range for the first time.
The semi-solid-state battery in the all-new MG4 Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition was jointly developed by SAIC and Qingtao Energy, demonstrating excellent safety and low-temperature performance. Through innovations in materials such as semi-solid-state electrolytes, the battery showed no smoke or fire during three-directional and continuous 10-needle penetration tests, significantly reducing the risk of spontaneous combustion. In low-temperature environments, it also performed exceptionally well, achieving a 75% driving range retention rate at -7°C (far exceeding the industry average of 60%) and maintaining over 85% of the battery cell's energy at -15°C. With fast charging, it could replenish approximately 200 km of range in 30 minutes. The all-new MG4 Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition is set to begin deliveries in December 2025.
Model Name: All-new MG4 "Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition"
Official Guidance Price: 102,800 yuan, Limited-Time Subsidized Price: 99,800 yuan.
Key Highlight: The world's first mass-produced semi-solid-state battery-equipped car model under 100,000 yuan.
Semi-Solid-State Battery Supplier: Qingtao Energy
CLTC Driving Range: 530 km, Battery Capacity: 70 kWh, Energy Density: 180 Wh/kg.
Safety Tests: Passed "three-directional, 10-needle penetration" experiments with no smoke or fire.
Low-Temperature Performance: 75% driving range retention rate at -7°C (industry average: 60%); stable discharge power and fast-charging capability maintained even at -25°C; fast-charging capability: 400 km of range replenished in 12 minutes.
Direct Competitors: Clearly targeting segment leaders like the BYD Dolphin and emerging rivals such as the Geely Xingyuan. The official guidance price of the SAIC MG4 Semi-Solid-State Safe Core Edition is 102,800 yuan, but the limited-time subsidy reduces it to 99,800 yuan, marking the first time semi-solid-state battery technology has been introduced from the high-end market into the mainstream price range. This pricing strategy has fundamentally altered the competitive landscape. Compared to key competitors—the BYD Dolphin (starting at 78,800 yuan) and the Geely Xingyuan (starting at 69,800 yuan)—the MG4 offers a significantly larger 70 kWh battery pack and a 530 km driving range at a comparable price point. Dimensional Reduction Strike: Its competitive strategy is crystal clear—"trading technology for market share." At the same price point, it offers a 70kWh large battery pack and a 530km driving range that far surpass competitors, while leveraging the safety and low-temperature performance of semi-solid-state batteries as core selling points, creating a "dimensional reduction strike" against rival products.
SMM believes that SAIC MG's deployment of semi-solid-state battery technology in the 100,000-yuan MG4 will preemptively capture customers with a strong preference for mid-end NEVs. Semi-solid-state battery technology has already demonstrated initial potential for mass production and cost control, and in the future, it will transition from being a "high-end exclusive" feature to a "mainstream standard," accelerating the electrification process for all.
