【SMM Nickel Market】India’s Ministry of Mines has cancelled the auction of five critical mineral blocks in the fifth round due to poor response, including a nickel-PGE block and a rare earth block in Karnataka, a tungsten mine in Maharashtra, and two glauconite blocks. Out of 15 blocks offered, 10 were awarded, covering graphite, phosphorite, REE, vanadium, potash, and halite across several states. Winners included Coal India, Oil India, NLC India, and Vedanta’s Hindustan Zinc. In total, 34 of 55 blocks have been auctioned across five rounds, part of India’s strategy to boost self-reliance in critical minerals essential for clean energy technologies.
