On August 21, 2025, the Yuchai YCA05KM methanol engine was successfully started at the National Engineering Research Center, marking a further improvement in Yuchai's methanol power product matrix, forming a full-scenario application system covering nearly 10 products including commercial vehicles, construction machinery, ships, and generator sets. The engine has a displacement of 5.02L and a maximum output power of 170 horsepower. Relying on the technical foundation of the popular non-road model YCA05 and the mature experience of the commercial vehicle YCK15M methanol engine, it features wide load regulation and low energy consumption (≤4.3kWh/Nm³), making it especially suitable for the green transformation needs in the construction machinery sector.
Yuchai has established a comprehensive power solution from land to sea through diverse technological routes such as direct methanol drive, hybrid, and range extension. For example, the dual-fuel methanol power system for ships, developed in collaboration with COSCO Shipping and Jiangsu Haitong, is expected to deliver its first unit in H2 2024; while the YCK15M methanol range extender for mining trucks can reduce operating costs by 30%-35%. The launch of the YCA05KM further strengthens Yuchai's leading position in methanol power technology.
As a liquid low-carbon energy source, methanol offers advantages such as safe storage and transportation, cost-effectiveness, and green renewability. Through technological innovation, Yuchai not only achieved stable startup of methanol engines at -40℃ but also obtained TÜV Rheinland certification ensuring hydrogen purity ≥99.999%, reserving a technical interface for future green hydrogen exports. Currently, Yuchai's methanol power products are being used in bulk in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and other regions, reducing CO₂ emissions by 160,000 mt annually, equivalent to planting 9 million trees, and have received special subsidy support from Shandong Province's hydrogen industry.
Industry analysis indicates that Yuchai's methanol power layout aligns with the global energy transition trend. Its integrated development model of "PV + hydrogen production + methanol" not only provides a model for efficient resource allocation in coastal areas but also shortens the equipment deployment cycle by 60% through modular design, providing technical validation for the rapid implementation of large projects. With the implementation of the national standard for M100 methanol fuel for vehicles, Yuchai is poised to further expand its market share in the commercial vehicle and construction machinery sectors, driving the internationalization process of China's low-carbon power technology.
