【SMM Nickel Market】August 17, 2025 – EcoPro announced that its cumulative sales of nickel-cobalt-aluminium (NCA) cathode materials surpassed 300,000 tonnes as of H1 2025, sufficient to produce approximately 3 million electric vehicles.
Since beginning commercial NCA production in 2008, EcoPro initially supplied around 100,000 tonnes for power tools and e-bikes by 2021. With surging EV and energy storage demand, an additional 200,000 tonnes have been sold since 2022. NCA offers 20–30% higher energy density compared to NCM materials but is more complex to manufacture, posing a higher technological barrier.
EcoPro, through its joint venture EcoPro EM with Samsung SDI, supplies all of its NCA cathodes to Samsung. Sales for energy storage applications grew sixfold in 2023, highlighting the growing role of NCA in both EV batteries and ESS markets. The company emphasized that NCA’s high energy density, durability, and safety advantages make it a critical material for next-generation lithium-ion batteries.
