Eramet's Indonesian Unit WBN Reports Mixed H1 2025 Results Amid Mining Challenges

Published: Aug 01, 2025 17:17 (GMT+8)
【SMM Flash News】In H1 2025, Eramet’s Indonesian unit PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) experienced mixed results, with mining activities hindered by limited permits and the start of new production sites, leading to an 8% drop in external ore sales to 11.0 Mwmt. Saprolite sales fell 22%, while limonite sales doubled. Ore grade declined to 1.6% (from 2.0%), and moisture content rose, driven by lower-grade new mining areas and reduced selectivity. Production costs increased due to lower productivity, though partially offset by higher nickel price premiums. Despite mining challenges, NPI output rose 21% to 17,000 tonnes, boosting NPI sales by 27% to 7,400 tonnes. Looking forward, WBN expects improved ore production in H2 2025 following a revised RKAB that raises the full-year target to 42 Mwmt, including 10 Mwmt of limonite, supporting HPAL growth.
