According to Reuters, Ghana has canceled a $1.2 billion bauxite agreement with local company Rocksure International and is instead seeking cooperation with a major overseas company to develop one of the richest bauxite deposits in West Africa.
Two sources said that potential partners include Dubai-based Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) or a Chinese company. The termination of the agreement marks a strategic shift for Ghana. Ghana holds approximately 900 million mt of bauxite, ranking seventh globally, but has struggled to attract sustained investment in mining and refining infrastructure.
Rocksure's agreement covered the Nyinahin Hills mine in central Ghana, which holds approximately 376 million mt of bauxite.
