Recently, the first batch of green methanol products from the Taonan City Wind Power Coupled with Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project, invested and constructed by Shanghai Electric, was successfully produced. Among them, the electrolysis water hydrogen production unit provided by Shanghai Hydrogen Era Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Hydrogen Era") has completed full-load commissioning and can continuously supply green hydrogen for the project. The successful operation of this electrolysis water hydrogen production unit provides a replicable practical model for multi-scenario applications of green electricity-based hydrogen production.

Advanced hydrogen production technology coupling, orchestrating a zero-carbon "duet"

The project innovatively adopts a collaborative operation design of an 8000Nm³/h alkaline electrolyzer and a 200Nm³/h PEM electrolyzer, achieving complementary advantages in technological routes through an intelligent control system.

Among them, the alkaline electrolyzer boasts a large-scale hydrogen production capacity per unit and low unit costs. As a basic load unit, it can achieve long-term stable operation, fully leveraging its economic and scale advantages. The PEM electrolyzer, with outstanding dynamic regulation capabilities, serves as a flexible peak shaving unit, capable of responding to green electricity within seconds. Together, they form an efficient "base load + peak shaving" operation mode, enabling flexible regulation of green hydrogen production. The system operates efficiently and stably at high loads and responds within seconds with "zero curtailment of wind power generation" at low loads, significantly enhancing the absorption capacity of green electricity.

Centralized demonstration of multiple product series, showcasing technological prowess

The project applies Hydrogen Era's independently developed Bristack®-Z series high-performance circular alkaline electrolyzers, Bristack®-I series plug-in square alkaline electrolyzers, and Bristack®-P series PEM electrolyzers, forming a complementary hydrogen production matrix. It also adopts multiple types of hydrogen production system configurations, such as one-to-one, three-to-one, and four-to-one, achieving centralized demonstration of multiple product series.

· Bristack®-Z series high-performance circular alkaline electrolyzers

The DC power consumption is as low as 3.94kWh/Nm³@2500A/㎡, a 12% reduction compared to the industry's conventional level. The maximum operating current density can exceed 8000A/㎡, a 200% increase compared to the industry's conventional level.

· Bristack®-I series plug-in square alkaline electrolyzers

They offer advantages such as high safety, reliability, and ease of maintenance. Based on the company's independently developed Bright Phoenix® new generation high-performance composite separator, they achieve low energy consumption and high current density operation, with DC power consumption as low as 4.1kWh/Nm³@8000A/㎡.

· Bristack®-P series PEM electrolyzers

The DC power consumption is as low as 3.946kWh/Nm³@15000A/㎡, with a current efficiency as high as 98%. Under rated operating conditions, the hydrogen production capacity is 200Nm³/h@15000A/㎡, and the maximum hydrogen production capacity can reach 330Nm³/h@25000A/㎡.

The above products have been certified by a third-party authoritative institution, and their performance has reached the internationally leading level. The successful operation of this project has verified the feasibility of multi-tank collaborative control and integrated design of multi-system collaboration, providing an excellent practical model for large-scale hydrogen production from wind and solar power.

Extended reading:

As one of the first batch of national demonstration projects for "on-site consumption of hydrogen produced from green electricity", the Taonan Wind Power Coupled with Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project has been included in the strategic layout of "Hydrogen-Powered Jilin" and "Jilin Hydrogen to the Sea" in Jilin Province. Its "multi-technology coupling + intelligent collaboration" model provides crucial support for the commercialization process of hydrogen energy in China.
