Airlangga Hartarto, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, announced that the US's planned 32% tariff on Indonesian goods, originally set to take effect on August 1, had been postponed. This decision was reached after Hartarto's talks with US officials in Washington, D.C. The postponement provides time for both sides to complete negotiations on Indonesia's tariff policy proposals, with both parties agreeing to continue consultations over the next three weeks. Hartarto visited the US after accompanying President Prabowo to the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and stated that the talks were an important step in strengthening trade relations between Indonesia and the US. The discussions also covered non-tariff barriers, digital economy cooperation, investment, and in-depth cooperation in key mineral resources such as nickel, copper, and cobalt.
