Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, announced the postponement of the U.S. 32% tariff on Indonesian products, originally set to take effect on August 1, following discussions with U.S. officials in Washington, D.C. The delay allows time to finalize negotiations on Indonesia’s tariff proposal, with both sides agreeing to continue talks over the next three weeks. Hartarto, who visited the U.S. after attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil with President Prabowo, emphasized that the meeting marked progress in strengthening Indonesia–U.S. trade ties. Discussions also addressed non-tariff barriers, digital economy cooperation, and investment, with particular focus on collaboration in critical minerals such as nickel, copper, and cobalt.
