Green Hydrogen Project Tracking — ChinaCoal's 100,000 mt/year Liquid Sunshine Methanol Project's Hydrogen Production Unit Regains Approval

Recently, the PV power generation and hydrogen production unit project of the 100,000 mt/year Liquid Sunshine - Carbon Dioxide and Green Hydrogen to Methanol Technology Demonstration Project has been approved for filing.

According to the project information, the project is located in the Tuke Industrial Project Area of the Sulige Economic Development Zone, Wushen Banner, Ordos City. The project unit is ChinaCoal Ordos Energy & Chemical Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 3.0818 billion yuan.

This project involves the construction of a new 400MW (AC side) PV power generation system and a hydrogen production and storage system with a hydrogen supply capacity of 21,000 mt/year. The hydrogen production system has a designed capacity of 46,200Nm³/h, and the hydrogen storage system is equipped with 10 spherical tanks of 2,000m³ each. Additionally, it includes supporting facilities such as step-down stations and public auxiliary engineering facilities. The average annual power generation of the PV power generation unit over 25 years is approximately 728.5779 million kWh. The electricity consumption method for this project is self-generation and self-use, with the surplus being connected to the grid. Most of the electricity generated from the new energy field is supplied to the electrolytic water hydrogen production device for green hydrogen production. No more than 20% of the total new energy power generation is connected to the grid through a 220kV grid connection line, with the grid connection point being the 220kV side of the Tuhudai 220kV Substation.

The originally planned construction period for this project was from July 2023 to July 2025. However, the project has been delayed by one year, and the project unit has promptly reported the construction progress to the online supervision platform.
