Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On July 12, FAW Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the municipal government of Changchun, the capital city of China's Jilin province, to further solidify their partnership, according to a post on FAW-Volkswagen ("FAW-VW")'s WeChat account.
Under the new deal, FAW-VW will introduce four new energy vehicle (NEV) models at its Changchun facility. These vehicles will be built on Volkswagen Group's next-generation platform and equipped with the advanced CEA (China Electronic Architecture). Production of these models is scheduled to begin after 2027.
The move follows a broader strategic cooperation agreement signed in March this year between FAW Group and Volkswagen in Germany. That partnership aims to enhance collaboration across product planning and technological innovation, positioning FAW-Volkswagen to achieve fresh breakthroughs in China's evolving automotive market.
Starting in 2026, FAW-VW's Volkswagen and Jetta brands will roll out 11 new models tailored to Chinese consumers across various segments. This lineup will include six battery electric vehicles (BEVs), two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), two range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs), and one internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle model—greatly expanding the company's product portfolio to meet growing demand for diversified mobility solutions.
By 2030, more than 20 new models are expected to be launched under a development strategy that balances both fuel and electric technologies, with an emphasis on intelligence and efficiency.
On the technical front, FAW-VW will integrate the new CMP (China Main Platform) with CEA architecture across its upcoming NEV lineup. This includes four compact-segment models—two BEVs and two PHEVs—further accelerating its shift toward electrification and smart mobility.
Additionally, a new model based on the MEB platform will also adopt CEA for comprehensive intelligent upgrades. In the mid-size segment, two advanced BEV models and their REEV counterparts are in the pipeline, targeting consumers who prioritize long range and next-gen NEV experiences.
Meanwhile, the Jetta brand is set to enter the entry-level BEV segment in 2026 with its first BEV model. Designed to be competitively priced while offering smart features, the new vehicle marks Jetta's formal step into the era of intelligent connected vehicles, further boosting FAW-VW's market competitiveness.
