Hydrogen Energy Insights learned that on June 27, the integrated wind and solar power-to-hydrogen project in Damao Banner, Inner Mongolia, Huadian Power, was approved. The 1,000 MW wind and solar power-to-hydrogen and hydrogen transmission pipeline project in Damao Banner is the first approved project in Inner Mongolia that combines wind and solar power-to-hydrogen with a pure hydrogen pipeline. It has received strong support from the autonomous region and the Party committees and governments at both the regional and Baotou city levels. The project includes 700 MW of wind power and 300 MW of PV power.

According to the approval document, the integrated wind and solar power-to-hydrogen project in Damao Banner, Huadian Power, Inner Mongolia, is located in Damao Banner and Baiyunebo mining area, Baotou City. The project entity is Inner Mongolia Huadian Huayang Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. The total investment is 6,764,531,600 yuan.

Main construction content and scale:

Power supply engineering: The total installed capacity of new energy power generation is 1,000 MW, including 700 MW of wind power and 300 MW of PV power. It will install 70 wind turbine generators with a unit capacity of 10 MW each and 614,770 half-cut, double-glass N-type modules with a capacity of 610 Wp each. It will also construct a 100 MW/200 MWh LFP battery energy storage power station, two 220 kV booster stations, and associated equipment and facilities such as access roads and power collection lines.

Hydrogen production engineering: It will construct 126 sets of 1,000 Nm³/h electrolytic water hydrogen production devices and supporting equipment, with an annual hydrogen production capacity of 547 million Nm³. It will also configure 25 sets of 2,000 m³ hydrogen gas spheres with a hydrogen storage capacity of 650,000 Nm³. Supporting facilities and equipment such as a 220 kV hydrogen production main booster station will be constructed.

Power grid engineering: A new 14.94-kilometer, 220 kV line will be built from Booster Station 1 to Booster Station 2, erected as a single-circuit line. A new 23.83-kilometer, 220 kV line will be built from Booster Station 1 to the hydrogen production main booster station, erected as a double-circuit line. Two 48-core OPGW optical cables will be erected along with the new lines.
