Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On June 27, BYD held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its commercial vehicle plant in Komárom, Hungary, according to a post on BYD's WeChat account.

The project will add 29,000 square meters of smart production facilities, significantly increasing annual production capacity for electric buses and trucks to over 1,000 units. This marks a new phase in BYD's local manufacturing strategy in Europe.

BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li stated, "This expansion is not just about boosting production capacity. It reflects BYD's commitment to green innovation through technology and underscores our dedication to supporting Hungary's economic development and Europe's transition to sustainable transportation."

Since entering the Hungarian market in 2005, BYD has steadily expanded its European industrial footprint. The Komárom bus and truck plant, completed in 2016, laid the foundation for BYD's local operations. Meanwhile, construction of BYD's passenger vehicle plant in Szeged is progressing steadily. The expanded Komárom commercial vehicle facility will integrate advanced digital, intelligent, and green manufacturing technologies to meet the growing demand for zero-emission public transport solutions across Europe.

The expansion is also expected to create several hundred high-quality jobs, injecting new economic momentum and strengthening Hungary's pool of skilled labor.

Backed by over a decade of experience in Europe, BYD's electric buses now operate in more than 160 cities across 26 countries on the continent, with a cumulative distance exceeding 590 million kilometers—equivalent to reducing CO₂ emissions by 630,000 tonnes.
