Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the integrated EV battery project in East Halmahera, North Maluku Province, on June 29. The project, invested in by China's CATL with approximately $6 billion, covers the entire industry chain, including mining, smelting, High-Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) processing, and cathode material production. It will become the world's first project of this scale. As one of Indonesia's 18 downstream industrialization strategic projects with a total value of nearly $45 billion, this integrated production system is expected to significantly reduce the cost of EV batteries, enhance Indonesia's competitiveness in the global EV supply chain, and demonstrate the country's determination to promote high-value-added utilization of resources and build a global clean energy hub.
