On June 19, 2025, Hydrogen Power (Zhuhai) Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Hydrogen Power) and Shanghai Shenkai Petrochemical Equipment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shenkai) successfully completed a test flight mission for oilfield facility inspections with a hydrogen-powered drone over the Daqing Oilfield, a land that carries China's energy memories and responsibilities! The hydrogen-powered drone carried approximately 3 kg of payloads, including telephoto, wide-angle, and infrared electronic pods, as well as a loudspeaker. It took off autonomously from the command center to a height of 90 meters, flew automatically at a speed of 50 km/h for 6 km to reach the inspection destination, completed an all-weather, carpet-style inspection of approximately 15 square kilometers of target area in about 1 hour, and returned automatically! The total flight time for this inspection was 1 hour and 40 minutes, with 25% hydrogen remaining. This is not only another significant breakthrough for Hydrogen Power in the field of clean energy applications but also marks the official application of hydrogen energy, a green power source, in critical scenarios that safeguard the nation's energy lifeline, opening a new chapter for intelligent, efficient, and environmentally friendly oilfield inspections!
The test flight activity was held in a core operational area of the Daqing Oilfield. The Hydrogen Power team, equipped with a long-endurance hydrogen-powered drone, conducted multi-subject, refined inspection and verification flights targeting key objectives within the oilfield area, including complex oil extraction facilities, oil pipelines, and oil storage tank zones.
The performance advantages of hydrogen-powered drones compared to lithium battery drones are as follows:
Ultra-long driving range, doubled efficiency: Leveraging the high energy density characteristics of the hydrogen fuel cell system, the drone achieves a significantly longer single-flight operation time than traditional battery-powered models, easily covering large areas of the oilfield and significantly improving the efficiency of single missions.
Stable and reliable, unafraid of cold: Facing the challenges of low winter temperatures in north-east China, the hydrogen-powered drone can maintain stable flight at temperatures as low as -40℃, providing a strong guarantee for year-round uninterrupted oilfield inspections.
Intelligent and safe, precise operations: Integrated with advanced flight control and intelligent mission systems, it has capabilities for precise positioning, autonomous inspections, and real-time data transmission; multiple safety designs ensure the absolute safety of hydrogen use and flight.
