[SMM News] SMM reported on June 19 that recently, Outokumpu, a global leader in sustainable stainless steel, and Alstom announced their collaboration to supply Circle Green stainless steel with a carbon footprint 93% lower than the global industry average. The first batch of products will be used in Alstom's new-generation Metropolis metro trains in 2026. This collaboration supports both parties in fulfilling their commitments under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and advancing Europe's vision for carbon neutrality. Rolf Schencking, President of Outokumpu Advanced Materials, stated that this contract represents the company's largest order in the transportation sector and its first application in a European metro project. He emphasized the critical role of stainless steel in reducing transportation emissions and driving technological innovation. Véronique Andriès, Vice President of Sustainability at Alstom, noted that the low-carbon stainless steel will be used in train exteriors, aligning with eco-design principles and significantly reducing carbon emissions. Currently, Circle Green has already assisted over 40 companies in Europe and Asia in reducing their carbon emissions.
