The Fourth Stop of 2025 SMM Indonesia Nickel Field Trip - PT Wahana Inti Nusantara Industrial Park

After the 2025 Indonesia Mining Conference & Critical Metals Conference, Wu Chenyu, SMM's Marketing Director for the Nickel Industry, and Enzo, a nickel industry analyst, led international investors on a visit and exchange to the Indonesia Huabao Industrial Park, where they were warmly welcomed by the company's leadership. Through this visit, SMM and the international investors gained a deeper understanding of the products, technologies, and corporate development of the Indonesia Huabao Industrial Park. Meanwhile, they also developed a more profound understanding of the current market situation and existing issues in the nickel industry. They will continue to deepen cooperation with large enterprises to achieve complementary advantages and jointly promote the development of the global nickel industry.

Investment Journey in Indonesia

Halmahera Project:This includes an integrated project for mineral resource development and ferro-nickel smelting.

Halmahera Island Project:This includes the Yaxi Ferro-Nickel Smelter Project.

Sulawesi Island Project:This includes the Huabao Industrial Park and Shuoshi Ferro-Nickel Smelting Project.

Huabao Industrial Park

Established in 2021, Huabao Industrial Park is located in Sibanggoku Village, Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. Construction of the park commenced in March 2022, and the core infrastructure was completed within just two years, with the first project achieving full production capacity.

The main infrastructure includes: a 50,000 mt coal terminal, a 20,000 mt general cargo terminal, a coal-fired power plant, a concrete mixing station, water treatment facilities, and sandstone and brick production lines.

Currently, 91.88% of the terminal's employees are locally hired.

Ferro-Nickel Smelting Project

Currently, there are 12 RKEF ferro-nickel smelting production lines in the park, with an annual production capacity of 1.05 million mt of ferro-nickel (approximately 126,000 mt of refined nickel), which have now fully entered the trial production stage. All three units of the supporting 3×250MW coal-fired power plant have been connected to the grid for power generation.

Park Planning

The total planned area of Huabao Industrial Park is 20,000 hectares, with an initial development area of 6,000 hectares. The initial development focus is on ferronickel smelting and steel manufacturing. In the future, multiple terminals with capacities ranging from 50,000 mt to 200,000 mt will be constructed, along with comprehensive infrastructure including road transportation, hydropower supply, communication networks, and security systems.
