Suntory Global Spirits Cancels Plans for Hydrogen Distillery at Auchentoshan

Published: Jun 10, 2025 13:58

Recently, Suntory Global Spirits has canceled its £60 million hydrogen energy project in Dalmuir, Scotland, due to the failure to secure funding from the UK government. The project was originally planned to utilize hydrogen to achieve decarbonization in whisky production.

The hydrogen energy distillery project was intended to replicate the hydrogen energy distillation trial conducted at the Yamazaki Distillery in Japan, aiming to bring it to Scotland to align with the UK's net-zero emissions target.

Suntory expressed disappointment over the outcome but thanked the community for its feedback, emphasizing its continued commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
