Recently, Mingyang Group's off-grid hydrogen production and green transportation demonstration project at its wind farm in Henan Province was successfully implemented, achieving the landmark production of the first kilogram of green hydrogen. Centered around Mingyang's independently developed mobile flexible PEM hydrogen production station, the project has successfully established a complete industry chain from renewable energy power generation to efficient hydrogen-to-electricity conversion and zero-carbon green transportation, offering a new solution for the consumption of new energy and the large-scale application of green hydrogen, thereby strongly promoting the green transformation of the regional energy structure.
The mobile flexible PEM hydrogen production station adopts a fully integrated design, enabling efficient hydrogen production once water and power are supplied. The demonstration project has achieved, for the first time, a direct connection between PEM hydrogen production and the fluctuating power supply from wind turbines, eliminating the need for reliance on traditional power grids or large-scale energy storage systems. The power regulation range covers 5% to 130%. Its modular structure supports rapid assembly, allowing for flexible deployment in complex scenarios such as mountainous areas and offshore locations. The hydrogen produced reaches a purity level of 5N, meeting the requirements for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and other backend applications.
In the demonstration project, the hydrogen production station can supply fuel directly to hydrogen fuel cell commuter shuttles, engineering transport vehicles, etc., covering scenarios such as park commuting and logistics transportation, all with zero carbon emissions throughout the entire process. According to model calculations, if vehicles powered by green hydrogen achieve the same operational scale, they can reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 1,500 mt compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles, equivalent to the environmental protection benefits generated by planting 83,000 trees.
The green hydrogen produced by this hydrogen production station can be used in chemical production processes, such as waste mineral oil regeneration and biomass fuel synthesis, significantly enhancing the level of waste mineral oil disassembly recycling and promoting the efficient conversion of waste oils into high-purity biofuels. In the production of special lubricating materials, leveraging the high-purity characteristics of green hydrogen and optimizing hydrogenation process parameters can significantly improve the performance stability of the products. This practice validates the potential for large-scale application of green hydrogen in the chemical industry and provides clean energy alternatives for traditional industries.
"Wind, solar, storage, hydrogen, and fuel" not only represent the integration of energy technology chains but also serve as critical supports for market applications. Through a closed-loop design encompassing green hydrogen production, storage, transportation, power generation, and terminal consumption, Mingyang is promoting the deep integration of new energy and hydrogen energy. It has already established a new energy equipment industrial park, a renewable and circular resource economy industrial park, and a new materials industrial park in Xinyang, Henan Province, accelerating the construction of a zero-carbon industrial park in southeastern Henan. This initiative forms a complete industrial ecosystem for "wind, solar, storage, hydrogen, and fuel," driving the large-scale implementation of clean energy.
